Lentil soup with vegetables (Adas b hamoud)

  • 1 bunch of swiss chard chopped in small pieces
  • 1/2 bunch of coriander finely chopped
  • 5 garlic gloves finely chopped
  • 2 onions chopped in small pieces
  • 2 medium potatoes cut into small squares
  • 1.5 cups of brown lentil
  • 2 TBSP olive oil
  • 1.5 lemon freshly squeezed
  • Salt and pepper


  1. In a large pot over high heat, preheat the oil and add the onions, stir until onions begin to lose their bright white color.
  2. Add the garlic and coriander to the cooked onions and stir for 3 minutes. Then add the potatoes and cook for another 2 minutes.
  3. In the same pot, add the swiss chard, lentil and 3 to 4 cups of water and stir well. Bring to boil and reduce to medium heat .
  4. Simmer, uncovered, until lentils are tender for about 30 minutes.
  5. Add the lemon juice, salt and pepper and let it cook for another 5-10 minutes.
